VOLUNTEERING & STUDENT MENTORING

VOLUNTEERING

Zingela is dedicated to establishing a world-class sanctuary for rare and endangered species of South Africa. The Zingela volunteer program began in 2013 to provide the research and wildlife monitoring to enable the reserve to fulfill this goal. The project focuses on breeding rare and endangered species and introducing these species into their natural habitat, as well as managing and balancing the current wildlife populations.

Volunteers are vital in developing a sustainable research facility, providing accurate data collection so that Zingela can implement its ecological objectives effectively; restoring this large tract of African wilderness to its former natural state with free roaming populations.Volunteers are involved in many monitoring activities; Waterhole/hide monitoring, including 24 hour watches over full moon, 2 or 3 day walks to explore large areas of bushveld and camping under the stars, monitoring drives to help habituate the animal to vehicles as well as feeding and monitoring rare species in breeding camps.

STUDENT MENTORING

(WIL)

Over the past few years, Zingela Nature Reserve has successfully aided students from numerous universities; such as Nelson Mandela University, Tshwane University of Technology, Centurion Academy and  many more across Southern Africa.

We offer nature conservation students the opportunity of work integrated learning (WIL). This means that students are able to gain valuable, hands-on experience during their practical year.

The primary objective of Zingela’s student mentoring program is to expose students to the field of nature conservation and to provide the opportunity of gaining valuable experience in this field. Zingela effectively prepares nature conservation students for an adult-orientated world by providing relevance to the theoretical knowledge that the students have already gained in their studies.
